Community engagement

Apart from being a key part of teaching and learning at Caulfield, the influence of our bilingual education is seen in many aspects of schools life:

  • Sister school relationship – We have a formal sister school relationship with Nakagawa Elementary School in Ogaki, Gifu. Ogaki is the sister city of the City of Glen Eira.
  • Whole school production – Every 2 years all our children participate in a school musical production which is performed in Japanese. Recent productions have been The Wonderful Wizard of Oz in 2019 and Puss in Boots in 2017
  • Year 6 Japan Trip – Each Year our Year 6 children have the opportunity to travel to Japan for about 12 days during which time they stay with host families from, and attend school at, our sister school at Nakagawa.
  • Fete – Our biennial fete has a very strong Japanese flavour to it with many aspects of Japanese culture to be experienced and enjoyed
  • Taiko Club – Year 5 and 6 children have the opportunity to learn the Japanese art of taiko drumming and to participate in a range of public performances
  • Bilingual Choir – Our Choir, with its repertoire of English and Japanese songs performs publicly at a range of occasions and events
